The data broker problem is real and most people don't know how exposed they are. We built this site to change that — with honest guides and unsponsored analysis, not affiliate-farm listicles.
There are over 200 companies in the US whose entire business model is collecting your personal information — your home address, phone number, relatives' names, financial estimates, browsing behavior, and more — and selling it to anyone willing to pay.
Most people have no idea this is happening. And most of the sites that claim to help are either thin affiliate farms that recommend the highest-paying service regardless of quality, or government pages with vague information and dead links.
TakeBackYourData.com is neither. We write detailed, tested opt-out guides and honest service reviews. Our goal is to help you actually reduce your exposure — whether you want to do it yourself for free, or pay a service to handle it automatically.
Every opt-out guide on this site reflects a process we've actually walked through. We don't copy/paste instructions from the brokers' own help pages — we test them, note where things break, and write guides based on real experience.
Our service reviews are based on public coverage claims, pricing transparency, user reviews, and our own analysis. We don't accept payment for rankings. The services we recommend are the ones we'd actually use.
Data broker opt-out processes change — sometimes monthly. We audit our guides regularly and update them when broker processes change. If you find a broken step, email us.
We earn affiliate commissions from some services. We disclose this on every page that has affiliate links. We never hide it, and it never changes our recommendations.
When we evaluate a data removal service, we look at:
| Factor | What We Look At | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Broker Coverage | Number of brokers covered, which categories (people-search, marketing, financial) | More brokers = more of your data removed |
| Removal Speed | How quickly removals are processed; re-removal timeline | Slow removals leave your data exposed longer |
| Pricing Transparency | Whether pricing is clear upfront; renewal terms; cancellation policy | Hidden fees are a red flag |
| User Experience | Onboarding complexity; dashboard quality; reporting | A service that's hard to use doesn't get used |
| Customer Support | Support channels available; response times; public user reviews | You may need help when something goes wrong |
